Cancer Defined

Cancer occurs when a cell in the body mutates to an abnormal state and begins to multiply uncontrollably.

The genetic structure of a normal cell tells it how to reproduce and how long it should live.

Cancer Cells Have a Genetic Flaw which is caused by a variety of factors:

In the early stages of the mutation the cancer cells are vulnerable to attack by the immune system but if not eliminated the process may accelerate and cause what is called a tumor.

Benign Tumors do not invade healthy tissue and are not serious health threats.

Malignant Tumors spread the cancers cells through out the body by the process of metastasis.

Metastasis is the Spread of Cancer in the Body

Metastasis occurs when cancer cells break away and travel through out the body in the blood stream or the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system carries the lymph fluid, white blood cells, which fight toxins that cause disease.

If malignant cancer cells metastasize, they have defeated the lymphatic system and spread to other organs where new tumors can grow.

Cancer cells can also become multi-drug resistant. When this occurs traditional cancer treatments fail.

Multiple Drug Resistant Cancer
Multiple Drug Resistance (MDR) is the phenomenon whereby cancer cells become resistant to chemotherapy drugs.
